Are you like so many that seem to almost always end up with too much stuff when traveling?
Being the organized people that we are, one would think that Marla and I have this all figured out, right?! Ha! But thank you for thinking so highly of us! Our trip to London earlier this year revealed that we still need some help in the travel department.
Our biggest mistake was that we took TOO much stuff!! As we packed to come home, we kept looking at each other in despair, occasionally commenting things like, “There’s GOT to be a better way” and “WHY did I bring so much?!”
At one point Marla wearily smiled at me and said, “Kate, I recently saw a video about packing smartly. Why don’t you see if you can find one that will support us with all of this?”
Well I looked and of course I found a lot that are awesome! My discoveries included (more…)

Everything is more FUN done with a friend – even organizing!
Let’s face it – most things are more fun when done with a friend – shopping, movies, dining, hiking, travel, and hobbies. What is it about organizing that makes us think we have to suffer? We have to force ourselves to get it done. It is always on the list but typically the last thing we want to do on the weekend, right? There seems to be shame around letting our friends see our chaos. And yet inviting someone to help is the solution!
This is one of the powerful secrets to make organizing FUN! Invite a friend to do it with you. Let go of the fear and shame of your friends seeing the chaos and open up to a powerful experience. As a professional organizer for 15 years I have seen hundreds of people be set free when they let themselves receive help from an organizer, a friend or family member. The important elements are:
- Pick someone safe who won’t judge you.
- Do the project in small pieces of 2-3 hours
- Make it fun by playing music or having snacks
- Try taking turns and helping each other
- Choose someone that supports you making a change

It takes curiosity and courage to ask the question – What if I were free?
What if I was free from the stuff, people and expectations that drag me down? Often I buy into the idea that I am trapped by my schedule, my business, my family, others expectations, and then there’s the physical stuff that keeps coming at me. Yikes, how could I possibly be free? We live in an abundant world with its own form of trappings.
Here is what I have to say – If I were free…
- I would take it easy today.
- I would let myself just enjoy what I am doing right now.
- I would be softer and more open.
- I would see magic more in sweet moments.
- I would feel gratitude for the variety of things that come my way.

“pliio™ is to your drawers what hangers are to your closet!” – Clare Kumar
How many times do you go to your dresser drawers to find a tank top, shirt or sweater; dig through the piles; and end up having to straighten everything back up or leave it for later because you are in a hurry? It happens to me more times than I’d like to admit and I’ve often longed for a better solution. “Why hasn’t someone created something like hangers for drawers?!?!” At the NAPO conference in 2013 I first heard of pliio™ and thought “Oh my gosh, someone HAS created something and it’s brilliant!”
What is pliio™?
pliio™ is a clothing management system that is designed to make folding, storing and finding your items easy, fun and organized. They are individual filing tools that you fold your clothes onto and then file them into a drawer, pliio storage box, closet shelf or suitcase. As you pull out individual items the rest stay neatly lined up and standing! Currently pliio™ comes in just one size, but coming soon are the smaller filers as well as large pilers.

No more notifications please!!
Every time I think of checking my email or social media I cringe. Why? Because things come in so quickly that I’m inundated by those numbered notifications. You get it! It’s like laundry…never ending! Plus, I waste so much time “just checking it really quickly.”
Okay, enough of the problem. Here is my outline of solutions.
First, accessibility.
I deleted ALL of my social media apps (expect for Instagram) off of my phone. It’s like ice cream for me. If I can get to it, I’ll eat it. (more…)

Spring is here. The sun is out. Time to clear out the clutter. But where to start and how to get it done. Clearing the clutter is freeing but can also be overwhelming.
Here are some simple tips to get started:
Start with a SMALL project like your purse, the top of your dresser, or the junk drawer.
Get a BUDDY and take turns helping each other. The project will be so much more fun with a friend.
