You know exactly what I’m talking about, don’t you?!

The tote bags. The reusable grocery bags that multiply faster than you use them. The gift bags you’re saving because they’re too nice to throw away. The free bag from the conference three years ago. The bag that came with a purchase and has lived in your closet ever since.

Bags collect bags. It’s one of the great mysteries of home organization.

Today we make a dent.

Try this:

Gather your bags — all of them, from wherever they hide — into one pile. Then sort:

  • Keep: the ones you actually use regularly. Be honest about ‘regularly.’
  • Donate: tote bags in good condition can go to thrift stores or be repurposed by others.
  • Recycle or toss: worn out, stained, or structurally sad bags.

A good rule of thumb: keep enough reusable bags to fill one grocery run, plus a couple of extras. The rest are clutter dressed as usefulness.

One pile, one decision, a whole lot lighter.
